Flat Rock Brew Cafe is a lively northern Sydney venue serving up a global selection of beers as well as their own house brews.
There’s an obvious English influence at Flat Rock Brew Cafe, given the English head brewer, the presence of a hand pump and their penchant for cask condition ale. They’re serving up a range of beers to Naremburn locals, and those that travel a bit further for their beer.
Extensive Beer Menu
As well as the tap beer, they have a magnificent bottle list featuring a variety of local breweries as well as German, Belgian and English classics.
You’ll find Sydney breweries with the likes of Akasha and Riverside, which is particularly good for the hop heads out there. Flat Rock are also good supporters of regional NSW breweries such as Badlands and Cupitt.
And that’s all before you get to their extensive range of house brews, featuring popular classics like their English Bitter and UK IPA. If you can get one of these on hand pump, or even better, cask conditioned, you’re in for a treat.
Wonderful, Local Atmosphere
It’s a tight little bar with a back area adjacent to the kitchen. When it gets going there’s a brilliant, jovial atmosphere. If there’s some music playing, conversations bubbling and great beer flowing, you’re guaranteed a good time.
As with many Sydney bars and beer venues, it’s one of those places that has a great local focus but is more than welcoming to newcomers. There are friendly staff who are happy to chat about the beers. Although it does get busy so perhaps consult Now Tapped! to see what they have on.
The food menu features a lot of what you’d expect with burgers, chips, salads and sharing plates. They have curry nights too, so if that’s your thing you have some good options for beer pairings such as a crisp Pilsner or Flat Rock’s own UK IPA.
Worth A Trip, Near Or Far
If you’re south of the bridge Flat Rock Brew Cafe can be a bit of a trek but it’s well worth it, especially if you’re going for a special event or to make a day of it. Get some food, get a tasting paddle or share a few bottles and you’re set for a great day out.
If you’re local, you have no excuse, it’s a beer venue you need to check out.
