The birthplace of the brewing company with the same name, Yulli’s in Surry Hills combines vegetarian fusion food with great beer.
Yulli’s is a name well known among Sydney’s beer enthusiasts. They have a distinctive core lineup headed by Norman, the Aussie pale ale personified. Seabass Lager is another of their core range. It’s perfectly paired with many of the vegetarian Asian fusion dishes at their Surry Hills restaurant.
The brewery brand sprang from the restaurant. So naturally it’s a place that’s ahead of the curve when it comes to constructing a sophisticated drinks menu. Beer obviously plays a large part. The restaurant team are well qualified to provide excellent recommendations on pairings based on your taste.
There are four taps at Yulli’s. Norman and Seabass are regular faces and are joined by limited or seasonal releases. There might be sour beers, or a single hop IPA. There might be something that’s spent time in a barrel but either way there’s going to be a beer to pique the interest of the beer nerd.
The drinks menu also features recognisable local names such as 4 Pines, Wayward, Lord Nelson, Stone & Wood and HopDog, as well as an impressive cider collection. It includes a range of styles all suited to pairing with food.
The vegetarian fare on offer matches the beer in terms of quality. Yulli’s can’t be mentioned without praise for the edamame and coconut moneybags. However, you can’t really go far wrong with anything on the menu.
The staff know their stuff too so it’s completely reasonable to leave the decision making to them. You’ll get a food and beer match that’s going to tick your boxes.
Yulli’s has a chilled vibe and you’ll soon forget you’re on the uber trendy and oh-so keen-to-impress Crown Street.
