Akasha were something of a first in the Sydney beer scene. A startup brewery with instant attention on them.

Some might have called it pressure but Dave Padden and the team have taken it all in their stride.
Padden was the brewing force behind many of the well loved beers at Riverside Brewing in North Parramatta.
His resignation sent tremors through the Aussie beer world and fans waited with baited breath to see where he’d pop up next. The answer was a new project, Akasha Brewing.
The name refers to the “fifth element” or an “unknown factor”. In brewing terms this is the extra piece that takes the four elements of yeast, water, hops and malt and turns them into a cracking beer.
If you’ve heard Dave Padden speak about beer, you’d guess that this fifth element is his passion and knowledge of brewing hop-forward beers.
Akasha have developed a range of American style beers. Hop heads of Sydney are sure to be jubilant.
Akasha released their hopped up Amber, Fire Within, at GABS 2015 and their Freshwater Pale Ale was soon on taps around Sydney creating a storm. Now they’ve added an approachable Galaxy-laden lager, a smashing West Coast IPA, and plenty of seasonals.
Sydney’s craft beer enthusiasts have watched, smacking their lips in excitement as the brewery grows and releases more and more special beers.
A whole load of passion and enthusiasm goes into Akasha beers and as hoppy as they are, it is the fifth element you taste when you enjoy one.
The best place to enjoy Akasha beers is at the brewery cellar door in Five Dock.
