Sauce Brewing’s Pazy Hale is… yes, you guessed it, a hazy pale ale.
Sauce Brewing has been one of the most committed to New England inspired pale ales and IPAs. The trademark haziness might be just a byproduct of production but it’s become a defining feature of the NEIPA style.
This is labelled as a pale ale but measuring in at 5.8% ABV it could conceivably be considered an IPA unless you were to staunchly take stylistic inspiration from American brewing, as Sauce does.
Lemon Squash
It’s like lemon squash in appearance. It’s a mellow yellow with a foamy white head. For those averse to haze it won’t look very attractive. To those who are excited by this craze, however, it’ll certainly tick the boxes for optics.
Pazy Hale is a special release that has returned a couple of times. In this instance released in the first few months of 2019, it showcases El Dorado and Citra hops but there’s no reason why it wouldn’t use different hops in future iterations.
The fruity hop aromas and flavours dominate this beer. There’s a heap of pineapple, some sweet mandarin, and peach. This character comes mostly from the El Dorado but some orange pith in the background means the Citra doesn’t go unnoticed.
It’s certainly juicy and it’s fairly low in bitterness. There’s a soft, rounded texture with maybe just a hint of chalkiness but it’s not offensive. Again, these attributes are characteristic of North East American-inspired beer styles.
Enjoy Fresh
Pazy Hale will be released from time to time but it’s worth visiting the Sauce Brewing tap room to try and get a taste.
These highly aromatic beers are increasingly popular but as with most beers they’re best drunk fresh.
